Malaysia’s first successful real estate investment trust (REIT), Starhill REIT, launched its initial public offering on December 16 2005 and raised RM513 million (US$136 million). Shares in the REIT were split between Malaysia (32%), Britain (20%), Singapore (19%), Hong Kong (11%) and Europe (10%), with 8% of the shares allocated to the rest of the world. Albar & Partners provided local counsel for the underwriters on the REIT’s listing. Our involvement is this deal won top honours with the Asian Counsel publication naming this as one of the “The Top Deals of Year 2005 in Asia”.
